In late 2020, Goodstart Mount Isa started a journey to become a lead smart centre. We received guidance from a wide range of stakeholders to develop a policy and procedure that would align with the Lead Alliance’s commitment to living safely with lead.

In November 2021, we received both a state and national Centre Innovation Award from Goodstart for our ongoing commitment to keeping children safe and protected.

In March 2022 we started a playground upgrade to remove all the excess dirt and sand, a modern sprinkler system was installed, an enclosed sand pit area built, and covered vegie pods installed. The upgrade was completed in May 2022 just in time for the Governor’s visit to Mount Isa.

As an ongoing commitment to living safely with lead, the kindergarten children receive a yearly visit from the LEADSmart Education Program and Captain Leadsmart. The program teaches children the importance of lead safe practices and what they need to do to live safely with lead.
